Cellulosic glycols: an integrated process concept for lignocellulose pretreatment and hydrogenolysis

Lignocellulose is the most abundant source of saccharides and it therefore a promising feedstock for glycols, such as ethylene-glycol, via catalytic hydrogenolysis polysaccharides that contains. However, this step hampered by presence lignin other biomass contaminants, ash, which need to be removed in pretreatment step. We propose an organosolv-like pre-treatment can delignify de-ash lignocellulose level allows upgraded glycol with comparable yields pure cellulose under demanding conditions.
